Beginning 2001, prices are calculated per square meter of useful floor space. Useful floor space does not include basement areas. Useful floor space is precisely defined in Norwegian Standard NS 3940: Area and volume calculations. In 1999 and 2000, prices were calculated using the utility floor space, and hence are not comparable with the new ones.
Prices of new detached houses include site value. Administrative fees and interest on building loans are not included. These costs usually amount to about 4 per cent of the total price.
The figure for price ratio of used detached houses in per cent of new ones for 2019 was corrected 31.03.2021. The number of new detached houses in the whole country for 2020 was corrected on 22 October 2021.
