A variable is a property of a statistical unit. The page is divided into several boxes, one for each variable, where you can select values by click to highlight one or more values. It always starts with the statistics variable which is the main value counted in the table.
Navigating with keyboard and screenreader. Select multiple object in row: SHIFT+arrow down/up. To select a single value in the listbox: Windows:Hold Ctrl + arrow down. Then release Ctrl and press space. Repeat. Mac:CMD+arrow down/up. Then release CMD and press spacebar. Repeat. (Works only in Chrome, not in Safari). To exit listbox with values selected, press TAB-key.

Consumer Price Index (1998=100)

Weights: The weights in the period of 1979-July 1999 are based on old classification of consumption. As the new classification (COICOP) was introduced in August 1999 the weights after the old classification were regrouped. The weights in the period of 1979 to July 1999 are therefore not strictly comparable with the weights from August 1999. From January 2011 the CPI weights are based on National Accounts data. From January 2016 a new Eurostat's 5 digit consumer classification (ECOICOP) has been implemented. Weights will not always add up to 1000,0 because of rounding effects.
