1  There was a change in the Dwelling Benefit scheme in 1997 when two different dwelling benefits (one from the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development and the other from the Ministry of Social Affairs) were merged into one scheme. In 1996 the income statistics only included the dwelling benefit operated by the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development.
2  The decile with the lowest after-tax income per consumption unit (EU-scale).
3  People in households where the main income earner is defined as a pensioner by the National Insurance Service.
4  Living alone and recipient of special allowance.
5  People in households where the main income earner is in receipt of rehabilitation or vocational rehabilitation allowances.
6  People in households where the main income earner has been continuously unemployed for six months or more.
7  People in households where the main income earner is a first-generation immigrant or born in Norway with both parents of foreign origin.
8  People in households where the main income earner is an immigrant from Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa, Central and South America or Turkey.
9  People in households where the main income earner is a refugee.
10  People in households where the main income earner has received social assistance during the year.
11  Households consisting of one student are excluded from single people under 35 years of age.
