1  Population growth is the difference in population on 1 January between two subsequent years, provided unchanged borders. For 1955, 1960, 1966, 1968 and later years population growth does not equal excess of births plus net migration, see "About the statistics" on: http://www.ssb.no/folkendrhist/.
2  Per 1 January 1965, 1568 Stemshaug, 1569 Aure, a part of 1570 Valsøyfjord (141 persons) and a part of 1572 Tustna (85 persons), were merged to one municipality, 1569 Aure.
3  By change in municipal boundaries per 1 January 1976 , 158 persons were transferred from 1569 Aure to 1571 Halsa.
4  Per 1 January 2006, 1569 Aure and 1572 Tustna were merged to one municipality, 1576 Aure.
