In the compilation of national accounts, a reconciliation of supply against uses is made at the level of detailed products. From this balancing, the item "changes in inventories and statistical discrepancy" emerges as a residual, of which it is not possible to say what is the size of statistical discrepancy, i.e. discrepancies in data basis. Tables on value added by activity in the quarterly accounts also include such an item "statistical discrepancy", which is the preliminary difference between total final uses less imports and gross domestic product. In constant prices, this item is zero. In current prices, due to minor inaccurate measurements in prices of the various products, this item will have a value different from zero. |
