Labour Party loser in council chair elections

In the chairman (mayor) elections following the municipal council elections in 1995, 41 fewer chairmen from the Labour Party were elected compared to the 1991 elections. The party now holds the chair in 144 of Norway's 435 municipalities (local governments). The agrarian Centre Party gained 18 chairmen in last year's elections, and now has nearly as many chairmen as the Labour Party.
