The wood processing industry accounted for the highest increase in sales, with a 26.4 per cent increase from 1994 to 1995. The machinery, oil drilling platform and transport equipment industries also had high growth rates, with respective increases of 18.6, 15.9 and 16.3 per cent. Turnover in 1995 was marked by high raw material prices in wood processing, the metal-working industry and parts of the chemical industry in the first part of the year, but also by higher exports of paper pulp, paper and cardboard, metals, machinery and transport equipment.
Preliminary figures show that industrial sales topped NOK 361.7 billion last year. Both 1994 and 1995 were good years for manufacturing industries, which saw sales grow 8.8 and 9.2 per cent respectively. High raw material prices, increased domestic consumption and exports contributed to the strong growth rate.
