The largest net immigration was from Sweden and Bosnia-Herzegovina, with 1,600 and 1,500, respectively. Around two-thirds of the immigration surplus from Sweden was made up of Swedes, while one-third were Norwegians. The immigration surplus from Bosnia-Herzegovina dropped by more than half from 1994 to 1995.
In 1995, a total of 25,700 persons moved to Norway, while 19,300 moved out. The immigration surplus - 6,400 - was just as high as in 1985, the year before Norway began to experience a steep rise in asylum seekers. Last year's immigration surplus was 1,100 lower than in 1994.
The largest net emigration last year was to Denmark, with around 600. Net emigration to Denmark was also the highest among just Norwegian citizens, with 400. Thereafter followed the US and Great Britain, which received respectively 300 and 270 more Norwegians than moved here from those countries.
