Construction of non-residential buildings continues to rise and was at the end of last year up 15 per cent above the level in fourth quarter 1995. Production of new homes has been relatively stable since the autumn of 1995, taking into account normal seasonal variations. The modest upturn in home building from June last year through the autumn flattened out towards the end of the year.
Norway's production index for building and construction in fourth quarter 1996 was up nearly five percent over the previous year's mark, after having been up two per cent over the 1995 level in the three preceding periods. The growth in construction is almost as big as in the building sector.
