Trucking survey, 4th quarter 1996. International transports:

Sweden and Germany are Norway's largest road haulage markets

Sweden was by far the biggest foreign market for Norwegian-registered commercial vehicles in 1996. Germany was the second largest market. The extent of domestic trucking (cabotage transport) and trucking between two foreign countries (third country transport) is modest.
Altogether 3.8 million tons of merchandise were transported by Norwegian trucks in 1996. Of this amount, 1.9 million tons were hauled from Norway and 1.8 tons to Norway. Third country and cabotage transports totalled only 50,000 tons.

60 per cent to Sweden

Sweden took in nearly 1.2 million tons of goods, accounting for a 60.2 per cent share of the total quantity of exports hauled by Norwegian commercial vehicles. The corresponding ratio from Sweden to Norway was 68.8 per cent, or nearly 1.2 million tons. Germany was the second most important recipient/shipping country, with respective shares of 12.7 and 9.2 per cent.

EU countries received or shipped 98.2 per cent of all goods hauled abroad on Norwegian-registered trucks in 1996.
