Household electricity rates fell by 6.8 per cent from March to April because of lower power prices. About one-third of the electric utilities in the sample lowered their rates, while the remainder made no changes. The utilities that lowered their rates are scattered throughout the country. Despite the decline, electricity rates in April were 10 per cent higher than in the same month last year.
A pronounced decline in power prices from March to April had a major impact on bringing the 12-month growth rate for April down to 2.6 per cent.
