Surge in oil tax revenues

Norway's monthly account of taxes paid and distributed in April 1977 shows an increase of more than NOK 15 billion compared to the same period in the previous year. This is an increase of nearly 19 per cent. Over half, NOK 8.8 billion, comes from higher petroleum tax income. During the same period municipalities saw their tax revenues rise by NOK 926 million, while county tax receipts increased by NOK 418 million.

Advance withholdings of taxes, which account for 71 per cent of total tax revenues, increased by nine per cent compared to the same period last year. Excluding oil taxes, taxes collected in arrears grew 11 per cent. The main reason for the high increase in total tax receipts is the surge in petroleum tax revenues, which alone grew 87 per cent compared to the same period last year.
