A total of NOK 394.1 billion in wages and fees was reported during the income year of 1996. In addition, taxable payments in kind total NOK 1.2 billion. Until 1995, the value of fringe benefits such as group life insurance, free housing or free electricity was reported together with wages and fees. In 1995, wages, fees and taxable payments in kind totalled NOK 369.9 billion.
Total wages, fees and taxable payments in kind in Norway increased by NOK 25.4 billion, or seven percent from 1995 to 1996.
The number of people receiving daily unemployment benefit in 1996 was down 34,000 from the previous year. Paid out daily unemployment benefit dropped from NOK 9.9 billion in 1995 to NOK 8.8 billion the year after.
