Tax income growth distributed among counties, excluding the continental shelf, has risen by NOK 10 billion or 9.1 per cent so far this year compared to 1996. Growth has been generally high throughout the country. Oslo has shown particularly strong growth with 15.6 per cent, followed by Sør-Trøndelag and Vest-Agder counties with respective increases of 9.4 and 8.8 per cent. The strong growth in tax revenues in Oslo is mainly due to the increase in corporation and payroll taxes. Sogn og Fjordane and Finnmark counties have seen the slowest growth, with respectively 4.2 and 4.1 per cent.
Tax receipts from January to June this year totalled nearly NOK 138 billion in Norway, up 16 per cent compared to the same period last year. Ordinary taxes on income and wealth received by municipalities (local governments) and counties rose by 6.3 and 5.1 per cent, respectively.
