Production index for industry, July 1997

Industrial output continues to rise

The output of the oil and gas, manufacturing, mining and power supply industries increased by 0.6 per cent from June to July, adjusted for normal seasonal variations. Increased production of oil and growth in industrial production are some of the most important factors behind the development.
Production of crude oil and gas increased by 3.5 per cent from June to July, adjusted for normal seasonal variations. From May to June oil and gas production fell 3.2 per cent. Part of the upswing from June to July is consequently attributed to the effect of routine operating and maintenance shutdowns in June. July production totalled 13.4 million tons of crude oil and nearly 3.9 billion standard cubic metres of gas.
