Preliminary figures for September 1997 show a current account surplus of NOK 4.9 billion, compared to NOK 5.8 billion in September 1996. The current account surplus for January to September 1997 was NOK 49.7 billion, while it was NOK 55.5 billion during the same period last year.
The goods and services surplus was NOK 5.6 billion in September, and can be entirely attributed to the favourable trade surplus. In September 1996 the goods and services surplus was NOK 6.9 billion.
The interest and transfers balance for September 1997 showed a deficit of NOK 0.8 billion, down from a deficit of NOK 1.1 billion in September 1996.
Revaluation of assets and debts, mainly due to exchange rate fluctuations, yielded Norway a net loss of NOK 0.4 billion in September. Norway's net foreign assets increased by NOK 4.5 billion in September 1997, and were estimated at NOK 99.4 billion at the end of the month.
