The goods and services balance was a favourable NOK 6.5 billion in November 1997. The balance of goods for November 1997 was NOK 6.9 billion in surplus, while the balance of services showed a deficit of NOK 0.4 billion. The goods and services surplus for November 1996 was NOK 9.9 billion.
Preliminary figures show a current account surplus of NOK 5.1 billion in November 1997, while the corresponding figure for November 1996 was NOK 8 billion. For the period January through November 1997 the surplus was NOK 56 billion, compared to NOK 68.9 billion the same period in 1996.
The interest and transfers balance shows a deficit of NOK 1.5 billion for November 1997, as opposed to a NOK 1.9 billion deficit the same period in 1996. Revaluation of foreign assets and liabilities, mainly due to fluctuating exchange rates, gave Norway a net loss of NOK 2.8 billion for November 1997. Preliminary figures show that Norway's net foreign assets increased by NOK 1.9 billion in November 1997and were estimated at NOK 106.5 billion at the end of the month.
