The goods and services surplus for January to December 1997 was NOK 79.5 billion, down NOK 13.2 billion from 1996, with goods accounting for NOK 78 billion and services NOK 1.5 billion.
Norway's current account surplus for 1997 was NOK 59.9 billion, preliminary figures show. In 1996 the surplus was NOK 72.5 billion. The surplus in December was NOK 3 billion.
Preliminary figures show a NOK 2.1 billion deficit in net interest and transfers in December 1997, while the average monthly deficit in 1997 was NOK 1.6 billion. The interest and transfers deficit for the entire year came to NOK 19.6 billion, NOK 0.6 billion less than in 1996.
