All counties with the exception of Hordaland and Troms reported increased revenues compared to the same period in 1996. Sør-Trøndelag had the largest increase, with 13.2 per cent.
Norwegian restaurants had revenues of NOK 3.48 billion in November-December (the sixth period) 1997. This is an increase of four per cent compared to the same period in 1996.
10 per cent increase in 1997
In 1997, the restaurants had total revenues of NOK 19.6 billion. This is an increase of nearly 10 per cent compared to 1996. With the exception of Finnmark, all counties reported higher revenues, with Sør-Trøndelag topping the list with an increase of more than 18 per cent from 1996.
Seasonal fluctuations
After the summer periods, the sixth period is high season for restaurants, with Christmas office parties constituting a vital source of revenue. In 1997, the sixth period accounted for 18 per cent of annual revenues for 1997. The highest percentage of annual sales was seen during the fourth period (July-August) in 1997, with 19 per cent. The first period (January-February) is the low season for restaurants, accounting for only 13.1 per cent of revenues in 1997.
