The average monthly earnings of all full-time municipal and county employees was NOK 18,800 on 1 October last year. This is an increase of NOK 600 or 3.2 per cent from the year before. During the same period the consumer price index rose 2.1 per cent.
Many groups of workers have seen low wage growth during the period, but there are relatively large differences between the groups and particularly in certain groups who deal with clients.
The average monthly earnings of full-time employees who deal with clients was NOK 20,600 in 1997. This is an increase of NOK 700 or 3.6 per cent from 1 October 1996.
The increase in the average monthly earnings for chief physicians in hospitals was NOK 3,000 or 7.8 per cent, while it was NOK 2,200 or 7.4 per cent for assistant residents.
Head senior consultants had average monthly earnings of NOK 45,200 on 1 October 1997. This is up 4,500 or 11 per cent from the year before. In comparison, specially trained nurses had average monthly earnings of NOK 20,100, up 1.4 per cent. State Registered Nurses earned an average of NOK 18,600 per month, an increase of 2.1 per cent from the year before. Average monthly earnings of State Enrolled Nurses was NOK 16,900, an increase of 2.0 per cent.
