Overall manufacturing orders were sharply higher compared to first quarter this year and were also higher compared to the same quarter last year.
Domestic manufacturing orders increased by 25 per cent from first to second quarter this year, mainly because of large orders for offshore platforms for the Snorre field development. Other industries are, however, experiencing a slowdown in demand.
New export orders fell two per cent from first to second quarter this year, largely because of sluggish demand in the shipbuilding, electrotechnical and optical industries. The figures show the annual changes in the trend series, computed on the basis of changes from the previous quarter. Total order reserves are about at the same level as earlier.
Decline in shipbuilding
Orders in the shipbuilding industry fell 60 per cent although backlogs are still large. The pronounced decline must be viewed in the light of the large number of new orders placed towards the end of last year, before the reduction in shipbuilding subsidies took effect at the beginning of this year.
