Taxi statistics, 1996 and 1997:

Over half of taxis are under two years old


At the end of 1997 the number of taxis registered in Norway totalled 5,949, of which 3,160 were under two years old. The newest taxis are in Tromsų, while the oldest are in Hedmark.
At the end of last year, only 13.1 per cent of the total fleet of taxis were five or more years old. Hedmark had the oldest taxis. Here, 17.4 per cent of the fleet was five or more years old. Troms has the largest percentage of new taxis. Here, 70.9 per cent of the taxis were under two years old.

The number of taxis registered in 1997 was up 1.4 per cent compared to 1996. The percentage of diesel taxis has remained virtually unchanged over the past four years, and was 65.8 per cent at the end of 1997.
