Oil and gas extraction from July to September was somewhat lower than in the first and second quarter of the year. This was attributed inter alia to the extraordinary operating problems with the new Ekofisk field centre. If we compare January-September last year with the same period this year, oil and gas extraction was 4.4 per cent lower this year compared with 1997. Power production fell 8.3 per cent from August to September. Power production in September was down 2.6 per cent compared with one year ago.
Production in oil and gas extraction, manufacturing, mining and quarrying and electricity, gas and steam supply went up 3.6 per cent from August to September when seasonally adjusted figures are compared. This is connected with a pronounced increase in oil production. Overall oil and gas extraction was, however, still 2.5 per cent lower than in September last year and when the weekly corrected statistics are compared the all-items index is 0.1 per cent higher.
