Statistics on land use in the coastal zone are divided into categories of steepness related to outdoor activities. Areas with very large angle of gradient (>25 degrees) are defined as too steep for hiking. Other angles of gradient used are:

- Small angle of gradient (<3 degrees)

- Medium angle of gradient (3-10 degrees)

- Large angle of gradient (10-25 degrees)
