The introduction programme for new immigrants, where participants receive an introduction benefit, is a mandatory scheme for all Norwegian municipalities. The teaching of the Norwegian language and social studies is a core part of the introduction programme, along with work practice and other initiatives that prepare immigrants for participation in the labour market and/or education.
