As of 1 July 2014, juvenile sanctions was introduced as a type of sanction for offenders under 18 years of age. Juvenile sanctions can be sanctioned by the courts as an alternative to unconditional imprisonment for juveniles offenders charged with serious or recursive crimes. The courts set a time frame for the juvenile sanctions, while the content of the sanctions – such as measures and conditions – is worked out in a meeting coordinated by The Norwegian Mediation Service.
Juvenile sanctions are placed under «Special sanction or other type of sanction» in the statistics of sanctions. In tables with sentencing, juvenile sanctions are broken down into values for the number of days with conditional imprisonment.
