Few stoppages – many working days lost
Six work stoppages were registered in 2013 and nearly 11 000 working days were lost. By comparison, only 500 working days were lost in the mid-term settlement in 2011.
2010 | 2011 | 2012 | 2013 | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Work stoppages | 12 | 2 | 11 | 6 |
Wage earnings in wage stoppages | 66 938 | 114 | 41 820 | 1 385 |
Working days lost | 500 009 | 526 | 360 643 | 10 849 |
A total of 1 385 employees were involved in six labour disputes in 2013. Most of the lost working days were within the electricity supply industry, with nearly 6 000. In transport and communication, 4 100 employees were involved in a strike.
As a rule, years with mid-term settlements, such as 2013, have fewer work stoppages than years with main settlements. The main settlement takes place every other year, which means that two-year agreements are signed in most areas. The agreements in the main settlements are reviewed in the years with mid-term settlements. This explains some of the major changes in the statistics from one year to another.
The statistics is now published as Trade union members and strikes.
Additional information
The statistics cover industrial disputes, or work stoppages, of at least one day's duration. The number of disputes per year is calculated based on the number of trade union federations or confederations that have had groups of employees involved in a work stoppage.
