Wages increase 5.1 per cent
Full-time employees in business activities and real estate had average monthly earnings of NOK 29 000 at 1 September 2000. This was NOK 1 400 more than at the same time the year before, or an increase of 5.1 per cent.
Nearly half of all full-time employees in business activities and real estate are employed in other business activities, with monthly earnings of NOK 28 500, an increase of NOK 1 200 or 4.5 per cent from September 1999. Furthermore, around a fourth of the full-time employees in management of real estate, renting and business activities are employed in computer activities. These employees had average monthly earnings of NOK 34 000, an increase of NOK 1 600 or 4.8 per cent from the year before. The rest are employed in research, real estate and renting of machinery. Employees in research had monthly earnings of NOK 30 300, an increase of NOK 1 300 or 4.4 per cent. By comparison, employees in real estate activities had monthly earnings of NOK 26 900, which was NOK 1 500 or 6.1 per cent higher than the year before, while employees in renting of machinery had monthly earnings of NOK 23 700, an increase of NOK 1 300 or 6.0 per cent.
Other business activities
Other business activities is a broad division that includes legal activities, architectural and engineering activities and advertising. Employees in legal activities had average monthly earnings at 1 September 2000 of NOK 30 600, an increase of NOK 2 000 or 7.2 per cent, while employees in architectural and engineering activities earned NOK 31 800, an increase of NOK 1 200 or 4.0 per cent from the year before. By comparison, full-time employees in advertising earned NOK 31 800, an increase of NOK 1 000 or 3.3 per cent.

7.0 per cent wage growth in legal activities etc.
Legal activities etc. includes in addition to legal services-related establishments, establishments engaged in accounting, bookkeeping and auditing, tax consultancy and business and management consultancy. Professionals had monthly earnings of NOK 38 300, an increase of NOK 2 600 or 7.3 per cent from the year before. Correspondingly, technicians and associate professionals had monthly earnings of about NOK 29 100, an increase of NOK 1 900 or 6.9 per cent. Senior officials and managers had monthly earnings of just under NOK 45 500, an increase of NOK 3 400 or 8.1 per cent from the year before.
4.8 per cent wage growth in computer activities
Full-time employees in computer activities have a relatively high level of earnings, and had an increase of 4.8 per cent in monthly earnings from 1999 to 2000. Nearly half of the full-time employees in the industry are professionals with monthly earnings of about NOK 36 600. This corresponded to an increase of NOK 2 800 or 8.4 per cent. By comparison, technicians and associate professionals had monthly earnings of NOK 30 800, an increase of NOK 1 500 or 5 per cent. Senior officials and managers had monthly earnings of just over NOK 51 500, which was equivalent to an increase of NOK 4 600 or 9.9 per cent from the year before.
4.4 per cent wage growth in research
Occupational groups in private research are characterized by a high percentage of full-time employees with higher educations. Monthly earnings of professionals was NOK 31 500, an increase of NOK 1 000 or 3.2 per cent from the year before. Corresponding figures for technicians and associate professionals was NOK 26 300, an increase of NOK 1 500, or 5.8 per cent. By comparison, clerks had monthly earnings of NOK 23 500, an increase of NOK 1 200 or 5.3 per cent. Senior officials and managers had monthly earnings of NOK 41 200, an increase of NOK 1 800 or 4.6 per cent.
4.0 per cent wage growth in architectural and engineering activities
Professionals in architectural and engineering activities had monthly earnings of NOK 33 900, an increase of just over NOK 3 000 or 9.7 per cent from the year before. By comparison, technicians and associate professionals had monthly earnings of just under NOK 29 200, an increase of about NOK 2 700 or 10.1 per cent. Senior officials and managers had monthly earnings of NOK 42 900, an increase of NOK 2 500 or 6.1 per cent from the year before.
About the statistical basis
The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises which cover a total of 50 919 full-time employees and 16 011 part-time employees. According to preliminary figures from the national accounts for 3rd quarter 2000, the statistics cover around 161 500 wage earners employed in business activities and real estate.

Additional information
Structural changes within the division along with the outcome of collective bargaining would have a certain effect on the wage increase being measured.
