Monthly earnings up NOK 1 400
Full-time employees in business activities and real estate had average monthly earnings of NOK 30 400 at 1 September 2001. This was an increase of 4.8 per cent from the same time the year before.
Real estate and business activities include real estate activities, renting activities, computer activities,
research, and other business activities. Other business activities include legal activities, architectural and engineering activities, advertising, security activities and industrial cleaning.
5.2 per cent wage growth in real estate activities
Real estate activities include real estate activities with own property and letting of own property.
About 35 per cent of all full-time employees are clerks or sales workers. This occupational group had monthly earnings of NOK 21 600, an increase of NOK 700 or 3.5 per cent from the previous year. By comparison, estate agents and other accosiated professionals had NOK 29 500 in monthly earnings, up NOK 1 500 or 5.2 per cent.
3.6 per cent wage growth in renting activities
Renting covers renting of machinery and equipment without operator and renting of personal and household goods. Nearly 25 per cent of all full-time employees are professionals or associated professionals with average monthly earnings of NOK 30 600, an increase of NOK 1 100 or 3.6 per cent from the year before. Here, senior officials and managers had NOK 38 800 in monthly earnings, up NOK 1 300 or 3.4 per cent.

4.7 per cent wage growth in computer activities
Computer activities include hardware consultancy, software consultancy and supply, data prosessing and maintenance and repair of office, accounting and computing machinery. Monthly earnings of civil engineers and other professionals were NOK 38 700 and corresponded to an increase of NOK 2 100 or 5.9 per cent. Civil engineering technicians and other associated professionals had NOK 32 000, up NOK 1 200 or 3.9 per cent from the previous year. Senior officials and managers had monthly earnings of NOK 55 300, which was equivalent to an increase of NOK 3 800 or 7.4 per cent from the year before.
5.4 per cent wage growth in research
Research includes research and experimental development in natural sciences and engineering and in social sciences and humanities. Highest wage growth had senior officials and managers with 5.7 per cent. This corresponded to an increase of NOK 2 300 and average monthly earnings of NOK 43 500 per September 2001. Professionals had NOK 32 900, an increase of NOK 1 400 or 4.3 per cent from the year before.
4.7 per cent wage growth in other business activities
Average monthly earnings for full-time employees were NOK 29 900, an increase of NOK 1 400 or 4.7 per cent from September 2000. Employees in legal activities had average monthly earnings of NOK 32 200, an increase of NOK 1 700 or 5.6 per cent. Lawyers or other professionals had NOK 40 300, an increase of NOK 2 100 or 5.4 per cent. Employees in architectural and engineering activities earned NOK 33 600 and full-time employees in advertising earned NOK 33 000. This corresponded to an increase of 5.8 and 5.6 per cent, respectively, from the previous year.
Annual earnings increased with 4.5 per cent
The estimated average annual earnings for all full-time employees in real estate and business activities were NOK 360 000 in 2001, an increase of 4.5 per cent from the year before. Annual earnings for employees in real estate activities were NOK 336 000 while employees in renting had average annual earnings of NOK 291 000. This amounted to an increase of 6.3 and 3.7 per cent, respectively. For full-time employees in computer activities annual earnings were NOK 420 000, an increase from the previous year of 3.8 per cent. In research the average annual earnings were NOK 378 000 and in other business activities NOK 354 000. This was an increase of 4.4 and 4.5 per cent, respectively.

Estimated annual earnings are based on reported wage information as of 1 September each year and include basic paid salary, variable additional allowances as well as bonuses and commissions, etc., but do not include payment for overtime work. The figures for estimated annual earnings for the current year are preliminary until wage statistics for the next year have been established. For more information see "About the statistics".
About the statistical basis
The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises which cover a total of 48 088 full-time employees and 12 606 part-time employees. According to preliminary figures from the National Accounts for 3rd quarter 2001, the statistics cover around 170 900 wage earners employed in business activities and real estate.

Additional information
Structural changes within the division along with the outcome of collective bargaining would have a certain effect on the wage increase being measured.
