Annual earnings increased by 5.2 per cent

The estimated average annual earnings for full-time employees in real estate and business activities increased with NOK 18 700, to NOK 377 400 in 2002.

The estimated annual earnings are estimated by information from wage statistics from at least two years as well as the quarterly wage index. The quarterly wage index is used to distribute the increase in wages through the year. The annual earnings measure the average earnings for a calendar year. Annual earnings do not include payments for overtime work. The estimated annual earnings for the current year are preliminary until wage statistics for the next year have been established.

6.7 per cent growth in annual earnings in research

The estimated annual earnings for full-time employees in research increased with 6.7 per cent, from NOK 375 800 in 2001 to NOK 401 000 in 2002. This is equivalent to an increase of NOK 25 200. Full-time employees in computer activities experienced an increase in estimated annual earnings of NOK 23 500 or 5.6 per cent, from NOK 417 300 in 2001 to NOK 440 800 in 2002. In comparison, the growth in estimated annual earnings was 3.2 per cent for full-time employees in real estate activities and in renting activities 4.6 per cent. Full-time employees in legal activities had annual earnings of NOK 396 900, which is equivalent to a growth of NOK 18 000.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises that cover a total of 56 419 full- time employees and 13 645 part time employees. According to preliminary figures from the National Accounts for 2n d quarter 2002, the statistics cover around 207 900 wage earners employed in business activities and real estate.
