Monthly earnings increased with NOK 1 250

Full-time employees in financial intermediation had NOK 29 900 in average monthly earnings as of 1 September 2001. This is NOK 1 250 more than in the same month the previous year, or an increase of 4.4 per cent. The highest growth was in other financial intermediation with 6.7 per cent from the year before. In monetary intermediation and insurance the growth was 4.4 and 4.1 per cent, respectively.

For full-time employees in other financial intermediation the average monthly earnings were NOK 35 400, an increase of NOK 2 200 or 6.7 per cent from the year before. Here, senior officials and managers had NOK 60 300 in monthly earnings, up NOK 4 200 or 7.5 per cent. By comparison, full-time professionals had NOK 40 000, an increase of NOK 2 100 or 5.7 per cent from the year before, while full-time technicians and associated professionals had NOK 33 900, an increase of NOK 2 100 or 6.7 per cent. Full-time clerks had NOK 23 500 in monthly earnings, which is NOK 800 or 3.3 per cent more than the year before.

Monetary intermediation

About half of full-time employees in monetary intermediation were technicians and associated professionals. This occupational group includes customer consultants and executive officers with an average of NOK 24 800 in monthly earnings, an increase of NOK 1 300 or 5.5 per cent. By comparison, professionals such as advisers and senior consultants had NOK 33 700 in monthly earnings, up NOK 2 200 or 7 per cent from 2000. Senior officials and managers in monetary intermediation had NOK 40 400 in monthly earnings, an increase of NOK 1 700 or 4.4 per cent. Full-time clerks had NOK 21 300 in monthly earnings, up NOK 900 or 4.5 per cent from the year before.

Insurance

Full-time employees in insurance had NOK 30 200 in average monthly earnings, an increase of NOK 1 200 or 4.1 per cent from the year before. Senior officials and managers had NOK 44 500 in monthly earnings, up NOK 2 000 or 4.6 per cent. By comparison, professionals had NOK 31 200 in monthly earnings, up NOK 1 900 or 6.5 per cent from 2000. Technicians and associated professionals had NOK 23 900 in monthly earnings, an increase of NOK 750 or 3.2 per cent, while clerks had NOK 22 200, an increase of NOK 850 or 4 per cent from the year before.

Annual earnings increased with 4.4 per cent

The estimated average annual earnings for all full-time employees in financial intermediation were NOK 355 000 in 2001, an increase of 4.4 per cent from the year before. The estimated annual earnings for employees in monetary intermediation were NOK 345 000, a growth of 4.5 per cent. By comparison, annual earnings for employees in insurance were NOK 359 000 and in other financial intermediation NOK 418 000, an increase of 4.3 and 6.3 per cent, respectively, from the year before.

Estimated annual earnings are based on reported wage information as of 1 September each year and include basic paid salary, variable additional allowances as well as bonuses and commissions, etc., but do not include payment for overtime work. The figures for estimated annual earnings for the current year are preliminary until wage statistics for the next year have been established. For more information see "About the statistics".

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises which cover a total of 31 049 full-time and 5 911 part-time employees. According to the preliminary figures from the National Accounts for the 2nd quarter of 2001, the statistics cover approximately 47 300 employed in financial intermediation except pension funds.
