New wage statistics for fish-farming
Full-time employees in fish-farming had average monthly earnings of NOK 24 600 per 1 October 2002. These new figures include employees in the class fish-farming covering production of fish, shellfish, mussels and the like. Also included are those employed in hatcheries, with production of spawn and fry.
Monthly earnings include basic paid salaries, variable additional allowances and bonuses, commissions and the like. As with the annual earnings, overtime pay and other benefits are not included. The basic paid salaries for all employees in fish farming per 1 October 2002 averaged at NOK 24 000.
Occupational groups
The majority of this class is made out by the fish-farmers themselves. On the average, their monthly earnings were NOK 23 300. Females had average monthly earnings of NOK 22 200, while males had NOK 23 400. Operators and drivers received NOK 19 300, whereas leaders had NOK 30 100.
Eduactional groups
About two thirds of all employees in this class have upper secondary school as their highest completed education. On the average, they had monthly earnings of NOK 23 900 per
1 October 2002. In comparison, employees with only primary school received NOK 22 100, whereas those with a university degree had average monthly earnings of NOK 30 700.
About the statistical basis
This is the first time Statistics Norway presents figures for this class.
The statistics are based on a sample of enterprises with 2 036 full-time and 217 part-time employees.
According to preliminary figures from the National Accounts for the third quarter 2002 the statistics cover about 3000 employees.

Additional information
Structural changes within the division along with the outcome of collective bargaining would have a certain effect on the wage increase being measured.
