Monthly earnings up NOK 700
Full-time employees in fish farming received monthly earnings of NOK 25 300 per 1 October 2003. This was an increase of NOK 700 or 2.9 per cent from 1 October 2002.
Fish farming includes production of fish, shellfish, mussels and the like. Also included are hatcheries, with production of spawn and fry. Men, which mostly work as fish farmers, dominate the class. Meanwhile, the majority of women are employed as plant and machine operators.
Fish farmers: up 3.4 per cent
The fish farmers themselves make out the majority of this class. On the average, their monthly earnings were NOK 24 100, a growth of NOK 800 or 3.4 per cent from 2002. Operators and drivers had monthly earnings of NOK 20 400, an increase of NOK 1 100 or 5.6 per cent. In comparison, leaders received monthly earnings of NOK 38 600, an increase of 1 500 or 4.0 per cent.
Educational groups
The majority of all employees in this class have upper secondary school as their highest completed education. On the average, they had monthly earnings of NOK 24 300. This was a growth of NOK 300 or 1.4 per cent. Employees with only primary school received NOK 23 200, an increase of NOK 1 100 of 4.9 per cent. In comparison, those with tertial education, 4 years or less had average monthly earnings of NOK 31 900, an increase of NOK 1 100 or 3.7 per cent.
About the statistical basis
The statistics are based on a sample of enterprises with 1 481 full-time employees.
According to preliminary figures from the National Accounts for the third quarter 2003 the statistics cover about 2 700 employees.
Monthly earnings include basic paid salaries, variable additional allowances and bonuses, commissions and the like. Overtime pay and other benefits are not included.

Additional information
Structural changes within the division along with the outcome of collective bargaining would have a certain effect on the wage increase being measured.
