Monthly earnings up 6.3 per cent

Average monthly earnings of full-time employees in fish farming amounted to NOK 31 400 at 1 October 2007. This was an increase of NOK 1 900 or 6.3 per cent from 1 October 2006.

Fish farming covers the production of fish, shellfish, mussels and the like, as well as hatcheries, including the production of spawn and fry.

Fish farmers themselves make up the majority of this class. Their average monthly earnings were NOK 29 400 in 2007, an increase of NOK 1 900 or 6.8 per cent from 2006. Average monthly earnings of managers were NOK 47 600, an increase of NOK 3 200 or 7.2 per cent.

Estimated annual earnings

At 1 October 2007, all full-time employees in fish farming had estimated average annual earnings of NOK 372 600, an increase of 5.9 per cent from 2006.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on a sample of enterprises with 1 767 full-time employees. According to preliminary figures from the national accounts for the third quarter 2007, the statistics cover about 3 700 employees. Monthly earnings include basic paid salaries, variable additional allowances and bonuses, commissions and the like. Overtime pay and other benefits are not included.

Average annual earnings are estimated using information from wage statistics for two years and the wage settlements. The figures are estimated for full-time employees and do not include payment for overtime work. Estimated annual earnings figures for 2007 are preliminary until the wage statistics for 2008 are available.
