Monthly earnings increased by 4.2 per cent

At 1 October 2000 full-time employees in private health and social services had average monthly earnings of NOK 20 800. This was NOK 800 more than at the same time the year before, or an increase of 4.2 per cent.

In health activities full-time employees had monthly earnings of NOK 22 500, whereas full-time employees in social work activities had monthly earnings of NOK 19 800. This corresponds to an increase over the previous year of NOK 1 000 or 4.5 per cent and NOK 700 or 3.9 per cent respectively.

Health activities: 4.5 per cent increase

Among health activities are private providers in the areas of hospital services, medical services, dental services and other health services such as round-the-clock care, physiotherapy etc. Professionals (jobs requiring at least 4 years higher education) had average monthly earnings of NOK 30 900, an increase of NOK 1 300 or 4,5 per cent. Of these, doctors had average monthly earnings of NOK

39 200, an increase of NOK 1 300 or 3.5 per cent. Technicians and associated professionals (jobs requiring 1-3 years higher education) had average monthly earnings of NOK 22 200, an increase of NOK 1 400 or 6.6 per cent. Of these, nurses had average monthly earnings of NOK 21 900, an increase of NOK 1 600 or 7.7 per cent.

Social work activities: 3.9 per cent increase

Private social work activities encompass everything from running institutions, day care, after-school programmes and leisure-time clubs to sheltered workshops and welfare organisations. Professionals had average earnings of NOK 25 800, an increase of NOK 900 or 3.5 per cent. Technicians and associated professionals had average monthly earnings had average monthly earnings of NOK 20 900, an increase of NOK 1 100 or 5.6 per cent.

Full-time service workers, market sales workers and those in care-giving occupations had average monthly earnings of NOK 17 000, an increase of NOK 700 or 4.3 per cent.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises which cover a total of 16 221 full-time employees and 10 979 part-time employees. According to preliminary figures from the national accounts for the third quarter 2000, the statistics cover around 72 000 employees in private health and social work.
