Monthly earnings increased by NOK 1 000

Full-time employees in private health and social work activities had average monthly earnings of NOK 21 700 per 1 October 2001, an increase of NOK 1 000 or 4.6 per cent compared with the corresponding month the year before.

In health activities full-time employees had monthly earnings of NOK 23 600, an increase of NOK 1 100 or 4.9 per cent. Employees in social work activities had monthly earnings of NOK 20 700. This corresponds to an increase of NOK 900 or 4.3 per cent.

Health activities

Among health activities private providers are in the areas of hospital services, medical services, dental services and other health services such as round-the-clock care, physiotherapy etc. Professionals had average monthly earnings of NOK 33 700, an increase of NOK 2 800 or 9.1 per cent. Of these, doctors had monthly earnings of NOK 40 800, an increase of NOK 1 600 or 4 per cent. By comparison technicians and associated professionals had average monthly earnings of NOK 23 700, an increase of NOK 1 500 or 7 per cent. Of these, nurses had monthly earnings of NOK 23 600, an increase of NOK 1 700 or 7.7 per cent from the previous year.

Social work activities

Private social work activities encompass everything from running institutions, day care, after-school programmes and leisure-time clubs to sheltered workshops and welfare organisations. Professionals had average monthly earnings of NOK 26 600, an increase of NOK 900 or 3.3 per cent. Technicians and associated professionals had monthly earnings of NOK 21 600, an increase of NOK 700 or 3.5 per cent. By comparison full-time service workers, market sales workers and those in care-giving occupations had monthly earnings of NOK 17 800, an increase of NOK 800 or 4.7 per cent compared with October 2000.

Estimated annual earnings increased by 4.4 per cent

Full-time employees in private health and social work activities had estimated average annual earnings of NOK 257 700 in 2001. This corresponded to an increase of 4.4 per cent from 2000. Employees in private health activities had average annual earnings of NOK 279 000, an increase of 4.5 per cent compared with 2000. In private social work activities average annual earnings for full-time employees were NOK 245 900, an increase of 4.3 per cent.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises which cover a total of 15 494 full-time employees and 12 253 part-time employees. According to preliminary figures from the National Accounts for the third quarter 2001, the statistics roughly cover 75 000 employees in private health and social work.
