Wages up 3.7 per cent

Full-time employees in private health and social work activities had monthly earnings of NOK 25 600 at 1 October 2005. This was an increase of NOK 900 or 3.7 per cent from 1 October 2004.

For employees in health activities the increase was 4.8 per cent while employees in social work activities had an increase of 3.2 per cent.

Full-time employed nurses working in health activities had monthly earnings of NOK 27 300, an increase of NOK 1 000 or 3.9 per cent. Specialized nurses and midwives had in average monthly earnings of NOK 30 100, an increase of NOK 1 100 or 4 per cent.

Doctors had monthly earnings of NOK 52 400. This was an increase of NOK 2 200 or 4.3 per cent from the previous year.

Auxiliary nurses working full-time had NOK 22 700 in monthly earnings. This was an increase of NOK 700 or 3.4 per cent.

A large part of employees in social work activities are associate professionals. In this group we find kindergarten teachers and child care officers. Kindergarten teachers had monthly earnings of NOK 24 300, corresponding to a wage increase of 2.8 per cent, or NOK 700 from 2004.

Child care officers had average monthly earnings of NOK 27 500. This was an increase of NOK 700, or 3.5 per cent from the previous year.

In the occupational group sales, service workers and caring activities average monthly earnings were NOK 20 500. This was an increase of NOK 500 or 2.4 per cent.

Annual earnings increased by 3.4 per cent

The estimated annual earnings are estimated by using information from wage statistics from two years and information from wage negotiations. Annual earnings include basic paid wages and salaries, variable additional allowances, bonuses and commissions and the like, but do not include payment for overtime work.

Full-time employees in private health and social work activities had annual earnings of NOK 305 000 in 2005, an increase of 3.4 per cent from 2004.

For employees in health activities annual earnings were NOK 337 300, an increase of NOK 14 500 or 4.7 per cent.

In social work activities average annual earnings were NOK 287 500, an increase of NOK 7 700, or 2.8 per cent.

Health activities include hospital activities, medical practice and dental practice activities as well as physiotherapeutic treatment and day and night care.

Included in social work activities are activities such as running institutions, day care, after-school programmes and leisure-time clubs as well as sheltered workshops and welfare organizations.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises with a total of 21 656 full-time employees. According to preliminary figures from the National Accounts for the third quarter 2005, the statistics cover approximately 68 700 employees in private health and social work activities.
