Monthly earnings up by NOK 1 900
Average monthly earnings for full-time employees in private health activities were NOK 31 400 at 1 October 2007, an increase of NOK 1 900 or 6.4 per cent from 2006.
The wage statistics measure wage levels on 1 October, irrespective of the time of the wage settlement. As a consequence, the results of the 2006 wage settlements for several professions were not included in the 2006 wage statistics. This has an impact on the observed wage increases from 2006 to 2007. The figures do not include overtime payment.
Health activities include hospital activities, medical practice and dental practice activities as well as physiotherapy treatment and day and night care. The average monthly earnings of doctors were NOK 58 200. This is an increase of NOK 3 400 or 6.2 per cent from 2006. Nurses and auxiliary nurses had monthly earnings of NOK 30 000 and NOK 25 600. This is an increase of NOK 1 900 and NOK 2 200, respectively.
The wage increase for nurses has been NOK 1 400 or 5 per cent on average in the past two years. The corresponding figures for auxiliary nurses are NOK 1 400 and 6.2 per cent.
Social work activities
Social work activities include activities such as the running of institutions, day care, out-of-school care and youth clubs as well as sheltered workshops and welfare organisations. Full-time employees in social work activities had monthly earnings of NOK 26 400. This is an increase of NOK 1 300 or 5.1 per cent from 2006. A large part of the employees in social work activities are associate professionals. In this group we find kindergarten teachers and child-care officers. Kindergarten teachers had monthly earnings of NOK 27 000, an increase of 6.5 per cent, or NOK 1 700. Child care officers had average monthly earnings of NOK 29 400. This was an increase of NOK 1 400, or 5.1 per cent.
Average annual earnings
In 2007, estimated annual earnings of full-time employees in health and social work activities were NOK 333 500, an increase of 5.4 per cent or NOK 17 200 compared to 2006. For full-time employees in health activities, average annual earnings were NOK 371 000, an increase of 6.0 per cent or NOK 21 100. In comparison, annual average earnings for employees in social work activities amounted to NOK 312 800, up by NOK 14 200 or 4.8 per cent.
The statistics are based on a sample of enterprises with 25 032 full-time employees. According to preliminary figures from the national accounts for the third quarter of 2007, the statistics cover about 72 700 employees in private health and social work activities. The term average monthly earnings is the main term in Statistics Norway's wage statistics. Monthly earnings cover basic salaries, variable additional allowances and bonuses. Payment for overtime work is not included. The increase in monthly earnings differs somewhat from the increase in annual earnings. The monthly earnings are compared at a specific date each year, while the change in annual earnings is from one calendar year to the next. Information for two years is used in the calculation, as well as information from wage negotiations. Estimated annual earnings for the current year are preliminary until wage statistics for the following year have been compiled. |

Additional information
Structural changes within the division along with the outcome of collective bargaining would have a certain effect on the wage increase being measured.
