Monthly earnings for employees in hotels and restaurants
Full-time employees in hotels and restaurants had average monthly earnings of NOK 19 800 at 1 October 2001.
Full-time employees in hotels and camping sites and other provision and short-stay accommodations had average monthly earnings of NOK 19 700. In comparison full-time employees in catering and canteens had monthly earnings of NOK 21 200, while full-time employees in restaurants and bars had monthly earnings of NOK 19 600.
Hotels and camping sites and other provision and short-stay accommodations
Service workers include cooks, headwaiters, waiters, waitresses and bartenders. Cooks had average monthly earnings of NOK 19 600 and headwaiters, waiters, waitresses and bartenders had monthly earnings of NOK 18 300. Clerks, receptionists and information clerks had average monthly earnings of NOK 19 500. In comparison full-time senior officials and managers had monthly earnings of NOK 29 100, and for professionals, technicians and associate professionals average monthly earnings were NOK 23 100.
Restaurants and bars
Among full-time service workers, cooks had monthly earnings of NOK 19 200 and headwaiters, waiters, waitresses and bartenders had average monthly earnings of NOK 18 200. For employees in elementary occupations average monthly earnings were NOK 16 900, while full-time senior officials and managers had monthly earnings of NOK 28 500.
Canteens and catering
Market sales workers, service workers and elementary occupations are the largest occupational groups in canteens and catering. Monthly earnings for these occupational groups were NOK 21 200 and NOK 18 600, respectively.
About the statistics basis
The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises which cover a total of 11 687 full-time employees and 14 828 part-time employees. According to preliminary figures from the national accounts for third quarter 2001, the statistics cover around 62 800 employees in hotels and restaurants.

Additional information
Structural changes within the division along with the outcome of collective bargaining would have a certain effect on the wage increase being measured.
