Hotel and restaurant wages up NOK 600

Full-time employees in hotels and restaurants had average monthly earnings, excluding overtime pay, of NOK 31 800 as per 1 October 2014. This was an increase of NOK 600 or 1.9 per cent from the same period in the previous year.

The section includes restaurants and bars and canteens and catering, as well as hotels and camping sites and other provisions of short-stay accommodation.

The average monthly earnings of employees in hotels and other short-stay accommodation was NOK 31 500 as per October 2014. Compared with October 2013, this is an increase of NOK 500 or 1.6 per cent. In comparison, average monthly earnings in restaurants and bars were NOK 29 600. Compared to October 2013, this is an increase of NOK 400 or 1.4 per cent. Average monthly earnings in canteens and catering were NOK 37 800 as per October 2014; an increase of NOK 1 400 or 3.8 per cent compared to October 2013.

The statistics are based on information from a sample of hotels and restaurant enterprises covering a total of 20 242 full-time employees and 28 777 part-time employees. The total number of employees that forms the basis for weighting is 96 400 in hotels and restaurants, according to the Norwegian Central Register of Enterprises and Establishments.
