Monthly earnings escalate by NOK 2 700

Full-time employees in the information sector had average monthly earnings of NOK 40 700, overtime pay not included, as of the third quarter of 2007. This constituted a year-on-year improvement of 7.2 per cent.

The information sector is divided into the ICT sector, which includes production of computer services and hardware, and the content sector, which includes production of content like text, sound, and pictures. The overall increase in the two sectors was NOK 2 700.

Earnings boom for technicians and engineers

Full-time employees in the ICT sector had average monthly earnings of NOK 42 400 in the third quarter of 2007, which was an increase of NOK 2 800 compared to the same period the previous year.

This sector has quite a few employees in professions requiring higher education, as for instance system developers and programmers. Average monthly earnings in this occupational group were NOK 42 800 for the point in time under review, a year-on-year rise of 5.2 per cent. Computer engineers and computer technicians had, for the same period, a boom in monthly earnings of 8.3 per cent, which means a jump of NOK 3 000 to NOK 39 400.

Smaller increase in the content sector

Employees in the content sector made, on average, NOK 36 900 per month in October 2007, which was an upturn of 6.1 per cent compared to October 2006. Radio and television employees had average monthly earnings of NOK 36 400, contrasted to the employees in information services like news agencies and advertising agencies, who had NOK 39 000. This is a year-on-year growth of 6.4 and 5.1 per cent respectively.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on a sample of enterprises with a total of 53 939 full-time employees as of the third quarter of 2007.

The statistic for the information sector are based on wage statistics from manufacturing, trade, communications, business activities and social and personal service activities, and are as such not based on a separate data collection process.

Average monthly earnings is the main term in the wage statistics, and is comprised of basic salary, additional variable allowances, and bonuses. Over time pay is not included.
