Monthly earnings increased by NOK 1000
Full-time employees in manufacturing had NOK 24 400 in average earnings as of 1 October 2001. This was NOK 1 000 more at the same time the year before, or an increase of 4.4 per cent.
Average monthly earnings vary a great deal across different industries. Full-time employees in textile products and wood products had the lowest average monthly earnings of NOK 20 800. Full- time employees in the production of basic chemicals had the highest average monthly earnings of NOK 28 900.
Basic chemicals
Machine operators and drivers in this industry are the largest occupational group with average monthly earnings of NOK 24 900 as of 1 October 2001. This was an increase of NOK 800 or 3.2 per cent from the same time the year before. Crafts and related workers had a higher increase in average monthly earnings of NOK 1 400 or 5.7 per cent in the same period. Senior officials and managers had an increase in average monthly earnings of NOK 2 500 or 5.7 per cent.
Machinery and equipment industry.
Full-time employees in this industry had average monthly earnings of NOK 25 500, an increase of NOK 1 100 or 4.7 per cent from the same time the year before. Crafts and related workers had average monthly earnings of NOK 22 100, while machine operators and drivers had average monthly earnings of NOK 21 700, an increase of 3.5 per cent and 3.4 per cent respectively. In comparison senior officials and managers had average monthly earnings of NOK 33 100, an increase of NOK 1 400 or 4.4 per cent from the same time the year before.
Proffesionals and technicians and associated professionals
Proffesionals in manufacturing had average monthly earnings of NOK 32 800, an increase of NOK
1 500 or 4.7 from the same time the year before. Technicians and associated professionals had average monthly earnings of NOK 28 500, an increase of 5.5 per cent. Proffesionals in basic chemicals had average monthly earnings of NOK 36 700, an increase of NOK 1 800 or 5.1 per cent. Their counterparts in food products, beverages and tobacco industry had average monthly earnings of NOK 29 700, an increase of NOK 1 400 or 4.9 per cent.
Machine operators and drivers
This occupational group in manufacturing had average monthly earnings of NOK 21 500, an increase of NOK 900 or 4.1 per cent from the same time the year before. Machine operators and drivers in food products, beverages and tobacco industry had average monthly earnings of NOK 20 100, an increase of NOK 700 or 3.5 per cent. In publishing, printing and reproduction industry the same occupational group had average monthly earnings of NOK 25 600, an increase of NOK 1 100 or 4.3 per cent. Machine operators and drivers in the production basic metals had average monthly earnings of NOK 23 500, an increase of 4.5 per cent from the same time the year before.

Estimated annual salary for full-time employees
By 1 October 2001, all full-time employees in manufacturing had estimated annual earnings of NOK 289 400, an increase of NOK 12 400 or 4.5 per cent from the same time the year before. Estimated annual earnings vary across different industries. Estimated annual earnings in the production of textile products were NOK 246 600 and estimated annual earnings in the production of basic chemicals were NOK 342 500, an increase of 4.8 per cent and 5.1 per cent from the same time the year before respectively. Full-time employees in the production of ships, oil platforms and modules had the greatest increase in estimated annual earnings and full-time employees in the production of basic metals had the lowest increase in estimated annual earnings. Estimated annual earnings in the production of ships, oil platforms and modules were NOK 296 400 and estimated annual earnings in the production of basic metals were NOK 300 600, an increase of 5.7 per cent and 3.4 per cent from the same time the year before respectively.

About the statistical basis
The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises and cover a total of 134 201 full-time and 12 962 part-time employees. According to preliminary figures from the national accounts for the 3rd quarter of 2001the statistics cover approx. 291 300 employed wage earners in manufacturing.

Additional information
Structural changes within the division along with the outcome of collective bargaining would have a certain effect on the wage increase being measured.
