Monthly earnings increased by NOK 1 000

Full-time municipal and county municipal employees had average monthly earnings of NOK 22 900 1 October 2001. This corresponds to an increase of NOK 1 000 or 4.6 per cent compared with the same month the previous year.

Female employees in full-time positions had average monthly earnings of NOK 21 800 October 2001. For male employees average monthly earnings were NOK 24 900. This wage difference is to some extent due to the fact that many female employees are service and personal care workers.

Service workers and personal care workers, 3.6 per cent increase

This occupational group covers one third of all full-time municipal and county municipal employees. Here average monthly earnings were NOK 19 300 October 2001. This was an increase of NOK 700, 3.6 per cent. The group includes nursing assistants, home helps, child-care workers, cooks and caretakers.

Professionals, 3.1 per cent increase

Full-time professionals had monthly earnings of NOK 28 400, an increase of NOK 900 or 3.1 per cent. This occupational group includes medical doctors, nursing professionals, dentists, psychologists, civil engineers, architects, senior executive officers etc.

Technicians and associate professionals, 3.9 per cent increase

Technicians and associate professionals in full-time positions had monthly earnings of NOK 22 300, an increase of NOK 800, 3.9 per cent. In this group we find nurses, physiotherapists, radiographers, life science technicians, engineering technicians, social workers, pre-primary teachers, executive officers etc

Clerks, 3.8 per cent increase

For clerks average monthly earnings were NOK 19 100 October 2001. This was NOK 700 more, an increase of 3.8 per cent. This group includes secretaries, data entry operators, accounting and bookkeeping clerks, switchboard operators etc.

Senior officials and managers, 6.9 per cent increase

Average monthly earnings for senior officials and managers were NOK 29 100, an increase of NOK 1 900, 6.9 per cent.

About the statistical basis

From October 2000 employees in the municipality of Oslo are included in the statistics. Employees in power production, power supply and teaching personnel in the school system are not included in the statistical basis.

The wage settlement in the municipal sector in the spring of 2001 provided an annual increase of NOK 2 200 from 1 May 2001 for each wage scale grade. The central wage adjustment negotiations set aside a further 0.4 per cent from 1 July 2001. Effective 1 November 2001, a total of 0.9 per cent was set aside for local negotiations.
