Monthly wages up NOK 1 600

Full-time employees in municipalities and county municipalities had average monthly earnings of NOK 27 400 per 1 December 2006. This equals an increase of NOK 1 600 or 6.1 per cent from 2005. Women and men had average monthly earnings of NOK 26 700 and NOK 28 700 respectively.

More than 50 per cent of all employees in municipalities and county municipalities work part-time, and nine out of ten part-time employees are women. To be able to compare earnings for full-time and part-time employees, earnings of part-time employees are converted into the earnings of full-time employees. Thus, women working part-time had monthly earnings of NOK 25 700, an increase of NOK 1 600 or 6.7 per cent. Men working part-time had monthly earnings of NOK 26 800, an increase of NOK 1 500 or 5.7 per cent from 2005.

Care activities

Average monthly earnings for full-time employees were NOK 25 900 in health services and social care in 2006, an increase of NOK 1 600. In comparison, employees in central administration and technical sectors had average monthly earnings of NOK 29 700 and NOK 27 300 respectively.

About the statistical basis

The statistics include 300 953 employees in municipalities and county municipalities per 1 December 2006. The statistics are based on data from the Staff Administration Information System (PAI) of the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities (KS). Employees in power production, power supply and teaching personnel in schools are not included in the statistical basis.
