Annual earnings increased by 7 per cent

Full-time employees in electricity supply had average annual earnings of NOK 319 800 in 2002. This is an increase of NOK 21 000 or 7 per cent from 2001.

The estimated annual earnings are based on the assumption that salaries are paid for 12 months of the year and holiday pay supplements are thus not included.

Annual earnings include basic paid wages and salaries, variable additional allowances, bonuses and commissions and the like. Overtime pay and other benefits are not included.

The statistics are based on information from the wages settlement, the quarterly wages index and the annual wage statistics at 1 October from two years back.

Monthly earnings increased by 8.5 per cent

The average monthly earnings of full-time employees in electricity supply at 1 October 2002 were

NOK 27 200, an increase of NOK 2 100 or 8.5 per cent. Males, whose average monthly earnings were NOK 27 900, dominate the industry. In comparison, females in this industry had average monthly earnings of just under NOK 24 000. This corresponded to an increase of NOK 2 400 or 9.4 per cent for males, and NOK 1 200 or 5.3 per cent for females.

Average monthly earnings are an important notion in wage statistics. Monthly earnings include basic paid salaries, variable additional allowances and bonuses, commissions and the like. As with the annual earnings, overtime pay and other benefits are not included.

The percentage increase in monthly earnings can differ some from that of the annual earnings. This is because monthly earnings are calculated every 1 October, while annual earnings are compared from one calendar year to the next.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on a sample of enterprises with 11 221 full-time and 506 part-time employees altogether. According to preliminary figures from the National Accounts for the third quarter 2002, the statistics cover approximately 15 300 employees in the electricity supply sector.
