Monthly earnings increased by NOK 1 900

At 1 October 2000, full-time employees in oil and gas extraction and mining had average monthly earnings of NOK 35 400. This was NOK 1 900 more than the same time the year before, or an increase of 5.7 per cent.

Most employees in this industry group are employed in oil and gas extraction, with monthly earnings of NOK 36 700. This was an increase of NOK 1 800 or 5.2 per cent from the year before. By way of comparison, full-time employees in mining had a far lower wage level, with monthly earnings of NOK 24 100, which was an increase of NOK 1 100 or 4.6 per cent from October 1999.

Oil and gas extraction

Employees in oil and gas extraction have a relatively high wage level. Senior officials and managers had monthly earnings of NOK 55 000, an increase of NOK 1 700 or 3.2 per cent. By way of comparison, full-time professionals (with at least four years of higher education) had monthly earnings of NOK 42 200, an increase of NOK 1 600 or 3.8 per cent from the year before. Full-time technicians and associated professionals (in jobs requiring one to three years of higher education) had monthly earnings of NOK 36 300, an increase of NOK 2 800 or 8.2 per cent. Craft and related trade workers, machine operators and drivers, who comprise a relatively large occupational group, had monthly earnings of NOK 31 800, an increase of NOK 2 700 or 9.4 per cent. Full-time clerks, service workers and market sales workers had monthly earnings of NOK 26 000, an increase of NOK 700 or 2.6 per cent.

Mining

Most employees in mining are craft and related trade workers, machine operators and drivers. This occupational group had average monthly earnings of NOK 22 700, which corresponds to an increase of NOK 1 000 or 4.7 per cent from the year before. Senior officials and managers had monthly earnings of NOK 36 000, an increase of NOK 1 700 or 5.1 per cent. By way of comparison, full-time clerks, service workers and market sales workers had monthly earnings of NOK 22 600, an increase of NOK 1 000 or 4.5 per cent from October 1999 to October 2000.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises which cover a total of 21 750 full-time employees and 1 289 part-time employees. According to preliminary figures from the national accounts from third quarter 2000, the statistics cover around 25 000 employees in oil and gas extraction and mining.

Corrected figures

On the basis of new information in connection with reporting per 1 October 2000, the figures per 1 October 1999 have been corrected.
