Fall in basic paid salaries for offshore employees
Gradual changes in working hours for offshore employees resulted in a decrease in basic paid salaries for operators and craftsmen from 2003 to 2004.
Working hours and the corresponding basic paid salaries have decreased on a yearly basis, but at the same time giving room for use of more overtime work.
On average, the basic salary of offshore crew fell by NOK 400 or 1.3 per cent per month from 2003 to 2004. However, additional allowances and bonuses increased in the same period, resulting in an increase in average monthly earnings of NOK 700, or 1.8 per cent, to NOK 38 100.
Craftsmen saw a reduction in their basic salary of NOK 1 200, or 3.9 per cent, to NOK 28 300. In the same period total monthly earnings increased by NOK 400, or 1 per cent.
The group Professionals includes civil engineers, economists and senior advisers. Employees in this group had average monthly earnings of NOK 50 000, a rise of NOK 1 200, or 2.5 per cent, from 2003.
Senior officials and managers had monthly earnings of NOK 67 400, an increase of NOK 1 800, or 2.7 per cent. Technicians and associate professionals had monthly earnings of NOK 43 500, an increase of NOK 400, or 0.9 per cent.

Wage increase in mining
The average monthly earnings for full-time employees in mining were NOK 29 300. This is an increase of NOK 2 300, or 8.3 per cent, from 2003. A large part of the full-time employees in mining are machine operators and drivers. This group had monthly earnings of NOK 27 000, an increase of NOK 2 300, or 9.3 per cent. Craftsmen had monthly earnings of NOK 28 500, up by NOK 2 300 or 8.9 per cent from 2003.

Average annual earnings increased by 4.4 per cent
Full-time employees in oil and gas extraction and mining had average annual earnings of NOK 512 400, an increase of NOK 21 400, or 4.4 per cent, from 2003.
In oil and gas extraction the average annual earnings were NOK 532 900, up by NOK 17 700, or 3.4 per cent. Annual earnings for full-time employees in mining increased by NOK 19 800 or 6.1 per cent, up to NOK 343 900.
The average annual earnings are estimated by use of information from wage statistics for at least two years, the quarterly wage index as well as information from wage negotiations. The annual earnings measure the average earnings for a calendar year. The figures for 2003 are final whereas the figures for 2004 are preliminary until wage statistics for 2005 become available .
About the statistical basis
The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises with a total of 24 079 full-time employees. According to preliminary figures from the national accounts for the third quarter of 2004, the statistics cover approximately 31 800 employees in oil and gas extraction and mining.
