NOK 1 000 increase for oil employees

Full time employees in oil and gas extraction had average monthly earnings of NOK 45 600 per October 2005, an increase of NOK 1000, or 2.2 per cent, from the year before. Senior officials and managers had monthly earnings of NOK 67 500, professionals NOK 50 600, operators and drivers NOK 40 000 and clerks NOK 32 000.

The monthly basic paid salaries for operators and drivers in oil and gas extraction increased by NOK 2 400, or 8.2 per cent from 2004 to 2005. Because of reductions in bonuses and variable additional allowances, average monthly earnings increased by 4.8 per cent or NOK 1 800.

Basic paid salaries for craftsmen in oil and gas extraction increased by NOK 900 or 3 per cent to NOK 29 200 in 2005. This is below the average basic paid salary for craftsmen in 2003.

Seniors officials and managers had an average increase in monthly earnings of NOK 100 or 0.2 per cent from 2004 to 2005. In comparison the monthly earnings of professionals, technicians and associate professionals increased by 1.2 and 1.9 per cent, or NOK 600 and NOK 800, respectively. Average monthly earnings for clerks were NOK 32 000 in 2005 constituting an increase of 3.8 per cent or NOK 1 200.

Modest wage increase in mining

Average monthly earnings for full-time employees in mining were NOK 29 600 - an increase of NOK 300 from 2004. A large part of the full-time employees in mining are machine operators and drivers. This group had monthly earnings of NOK 27 400, an increase of NOK 400, or 1.3 per cent. Craftsmen had monthly earnings of NOK 29 300 in 2005.

Average annual earnings increased by 2.4 per cent

In oil and gas extraction the average annual earnings were NOK 545 100, up NOK 11 600, or 2.2 per cent. Annual earnings for full-time employees in mining increased by NOK 11 300 or 3.3 per cent, up to NOK 355 900.

The average annual earnings are estimated by use of information from wage statistics for at least two years, the quarterly wage index as well as information from wage negotiations. The annual earnings measure the average earnings for a calendar year. The figures for 2004 are final whereas the figures for 2005 are preliminary until wage statistics for 2006 become available.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises with a total of 27 621 full-time employees. According to preliminary figures from the national accounts for the third quarter of 2005, the statistics cover approximately 34 400 employees in oil and gas extraction and mining.
