Monthly earnings up by NOK 1 200
The average monthly earnings of full-time employees in private education were NOK 29 000 at 1 October 2004. This is an increase of NOK 1 200, or 4.1 per cent, from 2003.
The average monthly earnings of full-time employees in higher education were NOK 32 200, up NOK 1 300 or 4.3 per cent from the previous year. In comparison, the average monthly earnings of full-time employees in private secondary education were NOK 29 600, an increase of NOK 1 100, or 3.9 per cent. Employees in private primary schools had monthly earnings of NOK 24 900, NOK 800 or 3.3 per cent higher than in 2003.

Teaching staff
The average monthly earnings of secondary education teachers with a university degree were NOK 31 100, an increase of NOK 800 or 2.7 per cent. The corresponding figure for teachers and other associate professionals were NOK 27 100, up NOK 1 400 or 5.4 per cent.
Close to 50 per cent of all full-time employees are secondary education teachers with a university degree. There are major differences in earnings in this group. While the average earnings for teachers in primary education were NOK 26 200, they were NOK 32 400 in higher education, an increase of 5.6 per cent and 3.4 per cent respectively.
The average monthly earnings of teachers and other associate professionals in primary education were NOK 25 000, up NOK 1 100 or 4.5 per cent from 2003. This compares with NOK 27 200 in secondary education, an increase of NOK 800 or 2.9 per cent.
About the statistical basis
The statistics are based on a sample of enterprises in private education with 4 427 full-time employees. The data do not include private folk high schools. According to preliminary figures from the national accounts for the third quarter of 2004, the statistics cover 16 600 employees in private education.

Additional information
Structural changes within the division along with the outcome of collective bargaining would have a certain effect on the wage increase being measured.
