Average monthly earnings up NOK 1 300 in transport and storage

Full-time employees in transport and storage had average monthly earnings of NOK 37 900 as per 1 October 2011, excluding overtime pay. This was a year-on-year increase of NOK 1 300 or 3.6 per cent.

The section consists of various divisions, such as land transport, water transport, air transport, warehousing and support activities for transportation, and postal and courier activities. Among the divisions, the highest earnings are found in air transport, at NOK 51 500, whereas the lowest are found in land transport, at NOK 32 000.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on information from a sample of transport and storage enterprises covering a total of 63 363 full-time employees and 18 346 part-time employees. The total number of employees that forms the basis for weighting is 127 100 in transport and storage, according to the Norwegian Central Register of Enterprises and Establishments.

The term average monthly earnings is the main term in Statistics Norway's wage statistics. Monthly earnings cover basic salaries, variable additional allowances and bonuses. Payment for overtime work is not included.

Structural changes within the division along with the outcome of collective bargaining would have a certain effect on the wage increase being measured.
